What is Vaping?
It’s NOT SMOKE
Vaping: To inhale vapor from a personal vaporizor (PV), commonly and mistakenly referred to as an electronic cigarette or e-cig. The term “smoking” doesn’t apply because a PV doesn’t produce any smoke, only vapor.
Vape: Used to describe the act of vaping as well as the vaporizor itself. e.g. I love being able to vape in the airport.
When a PV is triggered (either by an inhale or with a button press) the battery is connected to the heating element (atomizer) which boils a tiny amount of liquid (e-Juice). This creates a vapor which is inhaled by the user. At no point is anything burned through the process of combustion so no smoke/ash/tar is ever created.
Comparison to a cigarette
Just the simple act of burning something creates all sorts of stuff you really don’t want to be inhaling on a regular basis. In addition to all that, here are some other goodies that are added to cigarettes:

For those of you who don’t want to read the whole list, here are some of the good ones
• Acetone – ingredient in nail polish remover
• Methanol – used as rocket fuel
• Naphthylamine – a carcinogen
• Pyrene – a carcinogen
• Naphthalene – moth repellent
• Cadmium – used in batteries, a carcinogen
• Carbon monoxide – poisonous gas
• Vinyl Chloride – used in plastic materials
• Cyanhydric acid – poisonous gas
• Ammonia – industrial cleaner and detergent
• Arsenic – lethal poison
• Dibenzacridine – a carcinogen
• Polonium 210 – a radioactive element
• DDT – insecticide
How do Vaporizers work?
Vaporizers are marvels of technology. The central unit of the vaporizer is the battery and serves essentially as the power source, however it does more than just turn on and off. It works perfectly in conjunction with the tank (atomizer/cartomizer/RDA) & e-liquids.
Batteries are charged using advanced adapters prior to use. The atomizer tank connects to the cartomizer, which is the part of the unit that gets filled with the e-liquid. After all parts are properly connected it’s ready for action.
When the user puffs on the vaporier, the battery sends a charge of power to the atomizer and cartomizer, which in turn heats the liquid and causes the vaporization. This is how the flavor-filled, highly-potent, nicotine-rich vapor gets created, and simply, the user inhales just as they would a puff of smoke.

What is e-Juice?
So now that you understand that vaping isn’t smoking, the next question most people have is whats in that liquid that’s being atomized into vapor?
E-Liquid or E-Juice is normally composed of 5 ingredients
-
VG (Vegetable Glycerin) The Base makes up 80-90% of e-juice and is composed of 100% VG or a mix with PG. Common ratios are 100%. It is widely used in all types of food and personal care products like toothpaste.
-
PG (Propylene Glycol) Commonly mixed with VG as the base for e-juice. This is a solvent that’s used in all sorts of things. Along with being a solvent, its mainly known for its use in fog machines. A higher PG mix e-juice will produce thicker clouds of vapor. However PG can dry out your throat and even cause mild allergic reactions in some users. If you have any issues with PG, just use a higher % ratio VG e-juice like those from Island Fog Vapor Shop
-
Flavouring
-
Nicotine 0%-2.4% depending on strength of pharmaceutical grade pure nicotine.
-
Distilled water is sometimes used to dilute if needed.
That’s it. From as little as 2 ingredients (VG and flavor) to as many as 5, and theories on nicotine ingestion non withstanding, all used regularly in food products. Nicotine is present in certain human foods, especially plants from the family Solanaceae (such as potatoes, tomatoes, and eggplant). Remember, the important thing is what e-juice doesn’t contain:
4000+ chemicals in a cigarette.
